Youthreach Wellness Week

Students in Arklow Youthreach were not on midterm break last month. Instead they were participating in a local Wellbeing Week. The following activities were included:

- Wellbeing Talks facilitated by the amazing Graeme Walshe from the Sports Promotion Unit in KWETB.

-POUND exercise sessions throughout the week by Aisling who certainly got us all up and moving with our wooden spoons!

-Introduction to the 5 Week Sleep Programme. Hopefully most did not nod off during this session!

-Yoga sessions allowed us all to relax whilst moving our bodies.

-Scavenger Hunt with the winners receiving prizes. Our students were very creative in this event.

-Pancake Tuesday was celebrated with recipes and the traditions surrounding it. Competitions on pancake flipping and the best decorated took place. Thanks to Jacqueline for organising.

-Sing for Work provided a session to the students on singing and rapping. The philosophy of Sing for Work is to provide support to companies though the medium of singing. Sincere thanks to Linsey and Ross who volunteered this session to Arklow Youthreach. We are truly grateful.

-Quizzes which allowed for a healthy competitive spirit. James you are the quiz master!

-Mindfulness which allowed us to focus on our breathing and calm down our thoughts. Thanks to Angela for these sessions.

The last week in February KWETB held a Wellbeing Week for all seven of its Youthreach centres across the two counties. The activities included the following:

- Talk from Jigsaw. This organisation has recently opened in Bray and Adam presented on the theme of wellbeing.

- Circuits with John, Gary and Ruth from KWETB Sports Promotion Unit on Tuesday and Thursday. They also provided us with a video of their sessions so we can continue with the fitness challenges.

-Quiz hosted by Athy Youthreach. This was done through Nearpoint. Thanks to Ellie and all the team in Athy for their stellar work on this activity. The only question that needs answering now is the next time you are organising a quiz!

- Talk by Spunout. An amazing presentation by Timmy who had us all engrossed. The students were commended on not only their knowledge of mental health but also how well they all participated.

- Makeup session facilitated by Eimear Higgins who is a former student of Arklow Youthreach. This is the second time Eimear has volunteered her services for this task. With the laughter and the banter that took place it’s a wonder that any makeup was applied to the faces!

-Desk Top Publishing sessions focusing on the mental health posters which was facilitated by James. These will be displayed around the centre when we return.

-The Sleep Programme continued for many students.
